The University Of NSW sporting facilities at David Phillips Field have been fitted out with PILA groups Football/Soccer goals and Hockey goals as part of a $10m redevelopment.

David Phillips Field has been home to University of NSW sporting clubs since 1964 and was officially reopened by Vice-Chancellor Professor Fred Hilmer and former NSW Premier, local member for Heffron, Kristina Keneally.

The redevelopment included building a new synthetic hockey pitch, a multi-use football pitch and four tennis courts.  Three of the existing grass fields remain and two new club houses with kiosks and function rooms were also built.

UNSW Sport and Recreation General Manager Mark Lockie believes that UNSW now has the “finest university sporting facilities in the state.”

After an extensive tendering process PILA group were adjudged by construction company, Kane Construction, to have the highest quality soccer and hockey goals to complete the project.

It has recently been brought to the attention of PILA group that there are companies in Australia making very bold claims that they are the only companies selling goal posts compliant to the new mandatory Australian Standards.

The mandatory standards for portable football/soccer goal posts AS 4866.1-2007 came into effect as of December 31^st 2010 and PILA group were instrumental in working with the ACCC to bring in these regulations.  These regulations are in place to promote safety in all active play spaces and they ensure that both manufacturers and purchasers hold a duty of care to supply safe portable goals to participants.

A recent article stated that “2. Two Companies currently supply Portable Soccer Goals that comply with this new Standard”.  This statement is incorrect and false.

There are a number of manufacturers within Australia whose products comply with the mandatory standards. Each of these companies has a duty of care to explain the safety element of AS 4866.1-2007 and not to use it as a blatant miss-leading sales pitch.

While the regulations are not new, originally introduced in 2007, they were modified so that manufacturers could in fact meet the standards and stop the trend of dangerous untested goals being manufactured.  As a result the standards are now enforceable and manufacturers can be held accountable while officials can be held accountable for purchasing dangerous “untested” goals.

It is the safety of children which was the driving force for PILA to work with the ACCC to find a solution to the portable goal situation and in fact PILA invested in further research and development to assist the ACCC to find a solution.  PILA group have always adhered to all building and safety standards and regulations in the manufacturing and design process. Portable football or soccer goals are a key element in both football games and training because they allow for more technical training and they help to relieve stress on usually overworked fields.

At last, people can purchase portable goals with the peace of mind that they have been tested and meet the criteria set by the ACCC.

The Geelong Cats have taken out their third Grand Final in six years to become recognised as one of the greatest sides in the modern era.  PILA group would like to congratulate the Cats on their 2011 Victory.

Geelong has been a sentimental favourite for PILA group for the past couple of years since the City of Greater Geelong Council installed PILA group’s 15m/10m Aluminium AFL Goal Posts. More recently PILA group opened a second factory in Williamstown North which has further strengthened the company’s ties with the Geelong region.

The end of the 2009 AFL season signalled the start of a redevelopment of Skilled Stadium in Geelong, home to the Premiership winning Cats. During this process the old turf and drainage were removed, along with the old goals.  Once the necessary drainage and turfing had been completed PILA group were in Geelong installing the new goal posts.

The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles take out the 2011 NRL Grand Final.  PILA group would like to congratulate the team on their success, their second in four years.

Not only are the Manly Sea Eagles the local NRL team to PILA group’s Sydney factory but the Sea Eagles home ground was subject to a multi-million dollar upgrade during the last off-season. In a first for a NSW NRL team, part of the upgrades to Brookvale Oval saw the installation of PILA group’s flagship Rugby product, the 15m Fibreglass Rugby Goal Posts.

As the market leader in goal post manufacturing, PILA group were the logical choice for site owner, Warringah Council. As a local company PILA group were delighted to be part of this project.

PILA’s Project Manager Jordan Manfield commented “the hinge base system, making the posts easily removable, was ideal for council requirements as they plan to open up the field so it can be used by other sports.
