HOW is PILA’s Composite Wood made?

The raw material consists of approx. 60% recycle HDPE and 40% Rice Hull. The recycled HDPE is recycled from Milk Bottles and Water Tanks and Rice Hull is the waste or by-product from the rice we eat. So the entire product is made from 100% recycled material.

Other composite wood manufacturers use 60% wood powder. As we do not have any wood material in our product we can say we do have a completely sustainable product. The use of wood would prevent us saying this. Our products take the place of wood.

FIRE RESISTANCE

All products are HB Grade (Hard Burning Grade). To test for fire resistance, we burn the product and if the burn speed exceeds more than 40mm per minute and less than 75mm per minute, the product is classed as HB grade. Our products have been tested to rate at 22mm per minute so we significantly exceed HB Grade, but the SGS (testing institute – www.sgs.com)  test results classify our products as being HB Grade.

GRAFFITI RESISTANCE

Our products are manufactured from recycled PE (polyethylene from recycled milk bottles and water tanks) and PE is not easily painted as the surface rejects foreign matter. If a composite wood product is graffitied, the graffiti should be able to be removed fairly easily by a standard, non corrosive cleaning product, so as not to damage the surface of the product. As our products all come with a sanded surface, the surface can be lightly sanded back to remove any graffiti without damaging the look of the product.
