PILA’s Giant Fibreglass Flagpole

Who would have thought a drink between friends in a Sydney pub would eventuate in producing the largest fibreglass flagpole in the southern hemisphere.

It was July 2010 when PILA group Senior Sales Consultant George Worland and Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium Community Relations Tom Sweeny hatched the idea of putting a massive flagpole in the cemetery located on Sydney’s North Shore. Both parties collaborated closely to come up with the 22m fibreglass flagpole; the tallest fibreglass flagpole in the Southern Hemisphere.

Tom Sweeny Community Relations MPCC said “This was not done without consultation with some of the diverse communities that have burial sites in that area; as to what would be their reaction to such a monument. With confidence that the Flag Pole would be a landmark for all communities we went ahead.

PILA group were exceptional in keeping us informed of the progress of our Flag Pole and the installation procedure. All went smoothly and now Macquarie Park is the proud owner of the largest fiberglass flag pole in the southern hemisphere. Thank you PILA. We are very pleased with the result and the comments are flooding in – all positive!”

Senior Sales Consultant George Worland agreed “PILA group was extremely excited by the prospect of being involved with this landmark job. It is great achievement for both parties. It is most definitely one the most exciting jobs in PILA’s history and we are extremely happy with the result. Congratulations to all involved.”
