Lookout gets a face lift
PILA group has recently installed a new 15m fibreglass flagpole which stands a top Governor Phillip Lookout, Beacon Hill. The lookout, located on Sydney’s coastline is one of the highest points in the Sydney basin and has fantastic coastal, city and mountain views.
The new flagpole replaces the original 12m aluminium flagpole which had reached the end of its lifespan and was looking tacky and becoming dangerous. The new 15m flagpole which fly’s the Australian Flag will now be able to be seen from many more vantage points around the area.
Fibreglass flagpoles have significant benefits over aluminium, particularly in coastal areas, because they are able to absorb high winds – reducing the strain on the pole, they are low conductors of electricity, they do not dent and scratch like aluminium, and they can be installed without heavy machinery or cranes. The use of fibreglass poles in coastal areas is also beneficial because they do not corrode like steel and aluminium will in salt air.
The ability of this fibreglass pole to be driven to site and erected without heavy machinery meant that getting up the narrow bush track was a simple and inexpensive task. Once in place the sectioned pole could be joined and raised into place with its hinge base.
