Fibreglass Banner Poles

PILA group’s Fibreglass Banner Poles are perfect in the harsh Australian environment and do not dent or scratch like aluminium.  Fibreglass poles absorb wind forces which reduces the strain on the pole meaning they are less susceptible to becoming structurally weak, prolonging the life of the pole. PILA Banner poles are fitted with a rotating finial that allows the banner to track the wind, putting less strain on the banner and as a result increasing the life of the banner – saving you money.  PILA’s hinge base design means that the banner changeover is simple and cost effective as there is no need for heavy machinery during install or maintenance. Alternatively the pole can be fitted with PILA’s newly introduced Windspin Banner Bar that works using a simple rope halyard. For product accessories click here.

FAQs

Why choose FIBREGLASS banner poles over steel or aluminium?
There are 3 main material choices for banner poles in Australia – Fibreglass, Aluminium and steel. Fibreglass Banner Poles are a far superior product to aluminium and steel for a number of reasons. Steel is a heavy material and is therefore dangerous because it is prone to structural failure, shifting footings and welds snapping under load. If the pole does fail it can come down with damaging force, putting the owner of the site and pole in a very liable position for litigation. Metal poles are also difficult and expensive to install and are costly to move to another site or to storage as machinery and cranes are often required. Aluminium is a much lighter gauge material and is susceptible to huge wind forces, when banners are attached, that may cause the pole to weaken and snap. Aluminium poles are also prone to denting and scratching. Fibreglass on the other hand is lightweight, easy to install, transport and store. It's structural properties and inherent flexibility allows it to handle wind loads associated with larger banners.
What type of pole is easier to change banners on?
Steel poles require the use of a cherry picker or elevated work platform to complete a banner change over that can be very expensive. Steel poles are too heavy to lower manually and they are not usually mounted to accommodate easy banner change over's. PILA's Fibreglass Banner Poles are lightweight ensuring a cost effective manual banner changeover is possible, and they are mounted on a hinge mechanism that means the banner change over is OH&S compliant, easy and inexpensive.
How long will my banner last?
The life of a banner depends on a number of factors, however the two main conditional factors are the quality of the banner purchased and the strain placed on the banner while it flies. Traditionally steel banner poles do not rotate or move with the wind, resulting in the banners wearing out more quickly and needing to be replaced more frequently due to wind loads. PILA's Fibreglass Banner Poles are manufactured with a rotating finial as standard, reducing the load on the pole and the banner. The rotating finial allows the banner to track with the wind and expel wind energy instead of absorbing it and damaging the banner. A moving banner also draws more attention from a passerby than a static (not moving) banner.
Who can install PILA's Banner Poles?
PILA can install in many areas or we can recommend local installers who can complete the job to a professional standard. All PILA products are designed for easy DIY installation by a local handyman, landscaper or builder; saving clients time and money.
Do I need planning permission?
Although not always required, it is always wise to contact your Council to discuss planning permission prior to ordering, especially if the banners are in a public area or can be seen from a busy roadway. You should also discuss the design on your banners to ensure images and text are approved.
Do I need a landscape (horizontal) or portrait (vertical) shape banner?
If you are flying a portrait banner, a banner arm at the top of the pole is required. This is a standard banner pole. If you are flying a landscape banner a rope halyard is required. This is a standard flag pole. See our Flag Pole page for more information.
