Light Poles

PILA group is the only Australian manufacturer of fibreglass light poles. Designed and fabricated for everyday use at commercial and residential locations, PILA fibreglass light poles are manufactured using the highest quality materials. PILA group’s lighting poles are suited for a range of applications with our standard pole designs, heights and diameters but alternative pole top adaptors can be designed to suit the clients own light fittings; solar or electric.

PILA’s light poles are ideally suited for use in public places such as shopping centres and hotels, residential subdivisions and land developments, recreational areas and parks, and along  public pathways and local roadways. Our street lighting poles are designed for easy installation and maintenance and are mounted on a hinge mechanism as standard or can be fitted for in-ground mounting.

Fibreglass Street Lighting Poles

PILA’s light poles for roadways have been designed to absorb impact and minimise the collision force on the vehicle’s occupants. This design ensures the pole remains attached to the base when contact is made, absorbing impact energy progressively and entrapping the impacting vehicle as the pole deforms and cushions. PILA’s fibreglass poles have energy absorbing flex that helps the pole and base to move together upon impact.

“While fibre composite poles are expected to cost slightly more than hardwood poles, they could offer a number of benefits. For instance, pest and rot resistance, low inspection and maintenance costs, a longer service life and cheaper transport and construction costs due to its lighter weight,” Minister for Mines and Energy,  The Honourable Geoff Wilson, Queensland Government 2007 (Full article here)

PILA group does not manufacture light fittings in-house but we work with reputable light fitting suppliers to ensure our customers have a range of styles to suit their budget. These energy efficient lighting companies have cost effective, environmentally friendly solutions suitable for use with PILA group’s light pole range.  Alternatively, you can purchase your own light fittings and we can design an adaptor to suit our light poles (conditions apply).

FAQs

What height light pole should I buy?
The most common light pole height is approximately 6m, suitable for a 1 – 2 storey commercial or residential building.
What type of light pole should I buy – fibreglass or steel?
There is a big difference between fibreglass and steel in terms of performance and strength with fibreglass being the superior product choice for a variety of reasons. PILA always recommends fibreglass light poles as they are sustainable and more environmentally friendly than steel, they are cost effective, more hard wearing and easier to maintain. PILA’s fibreglass light poles are fantastic value as all PILA fibreglass light poles come complete with a vandal proof access door (if required), an OH&S compliant hinge base and they have a 5 year warranty for peace of mind and value for money.
What type of light fittings should I use?
Electrical light fittings or solar light fittings are suitable for PILA’s fibreglass light poles but we recommend clients choose solar light fittings to ensure your light pole is as sustainable as possible.
Who can install my light pole?
PILA can offer a complete supply-and-installation service on our poles and our on-site team are fully trained to work at heights and have OH&S qualifications. In locations where PILA cannot install, local installers who can complete the job to a professional standard can often be recommended. However, all PILA light poles are designed for easy DIY installation or by capable handymen, landscapers and builders, saving clients time and money.
Do I need planning permission for my light pole?
Generally a 6m light pole with a solar light fitting can be installed at a residential site without planning permission from your local council but it is always wise to contact your council to confirm planning permission is not required prior to ordering your light pole. For commercial locations, it is recommended you always contact your local council to gain approval in writing prior to installing your light poles.
