Grant for AFL Goal Posts Moves South Toowoomba AFL into the Big Leagues

The South Toowoomba Bombers’ successful grant submission for new PILA AFL goal posts has made home ground Heritage Oval a first-class venue and will help to attract high-profile games according to club president, Anthony Norley.

The $35,000 grant from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund is not just a boon for the club, but for the whole community. Norley says, “not only do our Club members have the opportunity to play at a first-class facility but Toowoomba now has a quality venue that can host AFL programs and regular second tier season games … This is terrific for AFL and sporting fans on the Downs as well as the organisers of programs such as AFL 9s, Auskick and the newly-formed Women’s League”.

With an impressive 46% increase in club members, South Toowoomba has the largest growth in player membership recorded by any of the 11 clubs in the AFL Darling Downs fixtures. PILA’s goal posts were installed in time for the start of the 2015 season.
