Miriam Vale Magpies get new PILA goal posts

With new players and new goal posts, the Miriam Vale Magpies are looking forward to the 2013 Northern Districts Rugby League season.

The Magpies kicked the year off with the annual pre-season trial game against Maryborough Brothers. Former Tannum Sands A-grade hooker Nathan Muller and five-eighth Ricky Noy donned the Magpies black and white for the trial game, as did local heroes Brent Crawford, Rhys Plater and Sam Griffiths. New and old players turned out to impress coach Aaron Causton. “We’ve been training well and have the makings of a good side,” Causton said.

The boost for the club was the $10,000 grant from the Gladstone Regional Council that saw the Gary Larson Oval decked out with new rugby league goal posts. “The 12-metre high interchangeable posts will further enhance our sports complex,” Gary Larson Oval enhancement group secretary Sue Thorne said. “We’re thrilled about the new posts. We’re trying to improve our level of professionalism and this will be a massive boost for our sports complex. We’re very grateful to the council and also the Miriam Vale Star Roadhouse for this new infrastructure improvement.”
