The Shoalhaven Installs PILA Flag Poles

The Shoalhaven Installs PILA Flag Poles (Shoalhaven City Council) at the northern entrance to Nowra, on the corner of Bridge Road and the Princes Highway. These 3 flag poles will carry the Australian, Aboriginal and Shoalhaven City Council flags.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor, Paul Green said Council’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee proposed the placement of the new flag poles after recognising the need for the Aboriginal Flag to be flown at the entrance to Nowra.

“Council is extremely committed to building mutually respectful relationships with the local Aboriginal communities,” said Clr Green.

“As a Council we made a commitment to fly the Aboriginal flag at the City Administrative Centre in 2010 as part of the Statement of Commitment to the Aboriginal people.

“By raising the Aboriginal flag at the entrance to Nowra, as well as the City Administrative Centre, Council is illustrating its commitment to continue working towards reconciliation.”

Shoalhaven City Council’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee recognised that the Aboriginal Flag should also be flown at the entrance to Nowra to –

  • Acknowledge the first Australians.
  • Recognise the significant Aboriginal populations in the Shoalhaven.
  • Continue Shoalhaven City Council’s commitment to reconciliation.

Shoalhaven City Council also flies the Australian, Aboriginal and Shoalhaven City Council flags at the City Administrative Centre and Ulladulla Administration Centre.
